MISMATCHED SLIPPERS

I HAD three pair of lovely, cozy hand crocheted slippers made for me by farmgirls.  I have loved them . . and worn them so much that, except for these two, they are all worn out.  Soooooo, I decided that I could still wear these even if they don't match.  After all, it's only me, my hubby, my dog and cat.   So, I'm savoring the wonderful warmth and snuggle factor of these last two mismatched handmade slippers!  Ahhhhh!!!

HENS, CHICKENS and CACKLEBERRIES

Yes, this is a ceramic rooster and hen, but they are the only kind that I allow to sit on my buffet credenza in my house.  I grew up on a farm and we raised chickens . . yes, we did!  After they grew up enough and survived all the skunk invasions they were separated by my dad.  The "fryers" went into the fryer house where they grew up more and then ended up in the freezer.  The pullets went into the henhouse where they grew up and produced eggs.  We had 300 laying hens, my younger sister and I gathered eggs, cleaned them, helped my mom candle and package them and deliver them on her 2 egg routes in town. What a farm project!

a FAVORITE RECIPE

Isn't this just the best recipe!   I love it and I just hope that my farmgirl friends can  read this and savor all the sweetness, caring and sharing that it represents!  God Bless all my farmgirl friends . . . and my other friends too!!!

LADYBUGS and DAISIES

A new craft experience for me is "Altered Spoons" and I have enjoyed making some of my own spoon creations for gifts and swaps.   A very sweet and giving farmgirl, Maddie, made this adorable little spoon lapel pin for me as a gift.  It's a baby spoon about 4 1/4 inches long, with other embellishments on the handle. Madde signed the back for me and put a pin on the back & top of the handle so I can wear it. What a sweet spring gift!  I love ladybugs! Thank you Maddie!

CAMERA BUFF

My father-in-law, Sam, was a camera buff!  He owned several cameras with different lenses and different pieces of photography equipment.  He derived such pleasure in taking photographs of every description of scenery, his family and many other things.  This is a vintage camera he owned and I was able to become the proud owner of.  Sam went to his heavenly home in August 2007 at the age of 81. He is missed!

The games are also older versions that my in-laws had.

COFFEE or TEA?

A fun cup & saucer set with some of my hankie collection.  Because of my Scottish heritage I'm fond of the Scottish thistle. motif
Well, both actually, please, and thank you!
I'm mostly a coffee drinker but I do enjoy tea as well.  I drink my coffee "barefooted" (black) unless I'm having my favorite sweet coffee drink, which is my English Toffee cappuccino.  My coffee has to be rich, good and hot!
My favorite teas are the green teas with different fruit flavors. . . hot, unsweetened and no milk/cream.  Either way, they are good for my soul!

MOM . . what a LADY!

My mom, Evelyn, was the sweet mother to six of her own children, two foster children and a special "grannie" to a whole passel of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  This is a snippet pic of her  (on the right) when she was 18, just before she married my dad.  The oval photo is of her mother, my grandmother, Sadie. On this shelf are some other things that were my mom's . . . treasures that remind me of her.  She was a passionate pianist, taught hundreds of students and encouraged her children in the art. She raised a huge garden, knew the art of everything in the kitchen, sewing, working hard, teaching & loving her children . . . the ultimate farmwife and mother! She went to her heavenly home on February 6, 1994, just a month before her 80th birthday.  Thank you Mom for being the mom you were!

TOOLS of the TRADE

My dad, Gaylord, was a farmer! That meant he was skilled in a lot of trades because he had to be and he was an extraordinary inventor.  He went to his heavenly home on January 27, 1997 at the age of  83 and three years after my mom when home.  Here is a snippet snap of just a few of the tools and a handmade box he had . . and an oil can for his machinery.  I was born and raised on this farm and learned how to work!  What a heritage . . thanks Dad!

ANGELS watchin' over me

I love angels!  I collect angels and this cute little angel kinda reminds me of me.  I guess because she looks like a "farmgirl angel" with messy hair (like me) and doesn't appear to be afraid of work, whether it be gardening, yard work, taking care of animals or being in the kitchen. I also believe that angels are ever present and watching over me . . . and you!! She is only one of my host of angels!

"Sew Special" Farmgirl

This is just the most ADORABLE ATC (artist trading card) made for me by a very special Farmgirl friend.  She knows I sew, she knows I papercraft and she knows my heart! This was a total surprise and I just smiled all over when I opened the package.     What a wonderful bit of herself she shared with me.  I'm just so thankful for the generosity of her heart and thoughtfulness.

What is a "SNIPPET" you ask?

A "snippet" is a small piece, fragment or segment of something, such as a piece of ribbon, a bite of yummy cake, or bit of information.   I'd like to share "snippets" from my part of the world right here as they happen and a few things that connect me and my family to the past. Those little "snippets" could be of just about anything . . . I hope that they are pleasing, surprising, and encouraging.

I believe that "snapshots" can be connected to "snippets", so I'm going to share some of those kinds of photographs.  They will be of the people in my life, the things that keep me busy and alive, the foods that we eat, the places we go, where we live, treasures we enjoy . . . words from the Lord.  Just about anything that makes up our day-to-day lives.

Please enjoy this journey of SNIPPETS and SNAPSHOTS with me!
